Unpaid gratuity in the UAE — how to file a MOHRE complaint

If your final settlement has not arrived, the UAE route is a labour complaint to MOHRE — free to file, and the step that has to come before any court claim. Work out what you are owed first, so your complaint names a figure.

Calculate your entitlement before you file — a complaint naming a specific figure is far easier to settle than one that does not.

Frequently asked questions

How do I file a labour complaint in the UAE?

Through MOHRE — the MOHRE app, the mohre.gov.ae website, the 600 590 000 call centre, or a Tasheel service centre. Filing is free. MOHRE first attempts an amicable settlement between you and the employer; if that fails, the case is referred to the labour court.

When should my gratuity have been paid?

Final settlement is normally due shortly after your employment ends — commonly cited as within 14 days of the contract end date. Confirm the current rule on the MOHRE website, as timelines are set by regulation and can change.

Is there a deadline to claim?

Yes. Labour claims should be brought within one year of the entitlement arising, so do not let an unpaid settlement sit indefinitely.

What should I prepare before filing?

Your employment contract, Emirates ID and passport copy, evidence of your last basic salary (payslips or bank statements), your joining and last working dates, and a calculated figure for what you are owed.

Can I file after I have left the country?

Complaints can generally still be pursued, and MOHRE’s call centre and app are reachable from abroad. Getting local legal advice is sensible if the case reaches court while you are outside the UAE.
